About Lisa Faithorn

Lisa bio

Lisa Faithorn is a research anthropologist, organizational consultant and educator. Her work focuses on individual, organizational and social transformation, creative collaborative problem-solving and community building across differences.

​

Lisa co-founded and taught in the Anthropology Graduate Program at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco for 20 years. While at CIIS, Lisa worked for the establishment of the Women’s Spirituality Program, and created an area of specialization within the Anthropology department entitled “Ecology and Social Change.”

Following her tenure at CIIS, Lisa worked for 10 years as a social scientist for NASA. She facilitated collaboration among scientists of diverse disciplines with the NASA Astrobiology Virtual Institute, and between flight controllers and computer scientists developing new technologies for NASA missions. She continues her work with NASA on a part-time basis, focusing on program development and project evaluation and is currently supporting a Roundtable Dialogue between NASA and the Northern New Mexico Pueblos focused on indigenous education.

Lisa is currently a faculty member of the Academy for the Love of Learning, a non-profit educational organization in Santa Fe, NM. The mission of the Academy is to awaken, enliven, nurture and sustain the natural love of learning in people of all ages. As a part-time staff member of the Academy,  Lisa co-facilitates a variety of public programs and also works with educators in the Santa Fe Public School District and beyond through the Academy’s Institute for Teaching.

Since moving to northern New Mexico in 2006 Lisa and her husband Djann Hoffman have worked to establish River FarsideFarm in Medanales, a certified organic farm, vineyard and educational venue with a focus on sustainable practices. Since connecting with Shumei several years ago they are now practicing Natural Agriculture on part of their property and have produced garlic and apples for Shumei members. Lisa became a member of Shumei in October of 2016.
